Nate McMurray is an attorney and Fulbright Scholar who grew up right here in Western New York. He’s running for Congress to finally give residents of Erie and Niagara Counties a proper voice in Washington, DC.

Nate is not a career politician. Rather, he’s a proven leader who has held executive leadership roles in government and the private sector, with some of the world’s most successful businesses. Today, he’s a tenacious Civil Rights attorney fighting for justice, equality, and the protection of fundamental freedoms, endlessly advocating for marginalized communities and striving to build a more equitable society for all.

He's tired of politics-as-usual in Western New York and wants to help usher in a new era of innovative solutions, economic growth, and inclusive policies that uplift every community in New York’s 26th Congressional District.

  • HEALTHCARE GUARANTEED. I have always fought for Medicare for All, and I will in DC. No excuses. What does that mean? It means healthcare as a human right, enshrined by our Constitution and guaranteed for every American, the same as every other modern country in the world. If Norway, Canada, Japan, South Korea, England, Germany, and Sweden can do it, why can't we? We can, and we shouldn't shortchange our citizens.

WOMEN’S HEALTHCARE—ABORTION RIGHTS—GUARANTEED. Even when I’m running for office in the reddest part of the state, I made no exceptions or equivocations. Abortion is a right under our constitution (despite the whims of the Supreme Court), and we should pass every law to enshrine that right permanently.

NO MORE STUDENT DEBT. Educate people in all fields, and make America (and American Democracy) strong. Again, do not be afraid to demand what modern countries provide—higher education.

CHILD CARE. We expect people to work all day just to give every cent of it over to child care that allows them to work. We need it.

EMBRACE IMMIGRATION. According to the US census, this region is growing at less than half the national rate. The only bright spot is Asian immigration, which is growing twice as fast. More immigrants will mean better schools and more small businesses. Enough scapegoating immigrants. Let’s fix the visa and asylum process, fund it, and strengthen America. No more excuses.

  • We live in the greatest tourist destination in the world. You heard me right. THE GREATEST. But Niagara Falls has been treated like a local park, even though it draws millions. The problem is, not enough visitors stay for longer than a few hours. We need to push for a Yosemite-style lodge, camping along the river (removing blight); and cruise ships along our waterfront. I am done pretending we don’t deserve it or it can’t be done. THINK BIG. Tourism is our strength, not an afterthought.

We also need to connect Buffalo to Toronto (the fastest-growing city in North America) by fast rail and connect Buffalo to Niagara Falls and its suburbs by light rail. One-third of our population in Buffalo has no access to a car. That’s one of the lowest rates in the country. Reliable public transportation would not only bring in remote workers and stabilize our declining population, but it would also bring back some of the folks who left our region because of a lack of opportunity.

  • TERM LIMITS. Addiction to titles and staff is a problem in Washington. I've successfully passed term limits locally and will push for them in Washington. Additionally, I commit to serving a maximum of eight years, recognizing it's enough for anyone.

TOWN HALLS. Our politicians love to hide from the people they serve. I pledge to hold quarterly town halls open to all my constituents, welcoming input, advice, and feedback. I work for you.

FIGHT MAGA. It's time to confront the sickness in our country—no more excuses for Trump. I will actively fight against Trump and his followers, prioritizing the protection of our democracy.
